Live report: Kovacs (Netherlands), Lifelike Portrait, The Moka Band @ Principal Club Theater, Thessaloniki Giota Sunshine

She was my Saturday night date. And she was expected with great enthusiasm. The night had come and we were all ready for her.
When she finally went on stage it was 11.30 and the venue was crowded with people.

It was her first live performance in Thessaloniki, the second in Greece (she performed in Athens the night before).
The stage was beautifully set: an old gramophone, red and black carpets, retro objects and a theatrical atmosphere. Kovacs and her band were ready to hit the stage. And she was “DIGGIN”. That was the song that opened her show and she was a new-age diva wearing a black dress and her black socks! It was a unique performance, filled with people, music and atmospheric vibes.

Her voice was immaculate, pure, fresh and dark as her outfit. She embraced her audience right after her third song and she warmly welcomed us showing her excitement for being in Thessaloniki. Her performance went on with the beautiful and soulful cover of Grace’s Jones “I’ve seen that face before/ Libertango” that swept all the audience away. By the time she sang “My love” we had all fallen in love with her.

Feeling ecstatic and overwhelmed, we were traveling, through Kovac’s voice, in unexplored lands and experiences. Her band-members were also following her steps; singing and communicating, in their way, with the audience.

Ultimately, that strange face of Kovacs is a mystery to be solved, better yet a music land to be explored. This bear-like hood of hers certainly hides more than a beautiful voice and a playful face.
